Custom columns on reports–can I make my own? – MCG’s MIPster the Tipster™

MIPster the Tipster: Custom Columns that tell the right story

Hello friends. Let’s make your reports clear and useful. Custom columns in MIP do two big jobs. Date columns set the time frame. You can build a column for this month’s actuals from three years ago, a year to date from three years ago, or even one column per day in the month. Date columns are all about the period you want to see. Calculation columns run the math. Use them to compare or combine other columns. Think projected year end, monthly spending, or projected year end with a three percent increase. Calculations turn raw numbers into answers you can act on.

Here is the tip. Use date columns to define the period. Use calculation columns to analyze the results. Together they make reports that show the data and explain it. You get power, clarity, and decisions that come faster.
