Are you working in the right organization and GL? – MCG’s MIPster the Tipster™

Clearing in the Wrong Organization Is Easier Than Most People Expect

When you have access to more than one organization database in MIP®, it is possible to start clearing transactions in the wrong place without realizing it. The screens look familiar. The data looks reasonable. By the time the mistake is noticed, cleared items may already be saved to the wrong cash general ledger.

Confirming the organization name and the cash GL at the top of the reconciliation screen prevents this error. That quick check establishes which entity and which account you are working in before any clearing begins. Skipping it usually leads to cleanup work that is far more time-consuming than the original reconciliation.

This issue shows up most often in firms or shared-service teams that support multiple entities. Switching contexts throughout the day increases the risk, especially when reconciliations follow the same sequence each time.

This video is for accounting teams that work across multiple MIP organizations and want their reconciliations to stay clean and contained. It is not intended for teams that rarely switch databases or are comfortable fixing cross-organization mistakes after the fact.

McGovern Consulting Group provides MIP Accounting® Training and Implementation Services. We focus on operational safeguards like this because accuracy depends as much on habit as it does on knowledge.

If you want to reduce preventable reconciliation errors across organizations, schedule time with us to review your workflow.
