Are clearing shortcuts speeding up your work? – MCG’s MIPster the Tipster™

Marking Cleared Items One at a Time Is Slowing Down Every Reconciliation

Bank reconciliations in MIP® often take longer than they need to because users clear items individually. That approach works, but it adds unnecessary clicks and makes a routine task feel heavier every month.

MIP allows you to select multiple rows at once using Shift or Ctrl, then press the Space bar to toggle the Cleared status. This works across an entire bank page of items and applies immediately. The system updates the selected transactions without forcing you to open or touch each line.

The practical effect is cumulative. A few saved seconds per item becomes several minutes per reconciliation, which adds up across accounts, periods, and staff. More importantly, fewer clicks reduce fatigue and lower the chance of missing an item during review.

This tip is for accounting teams that reconcile regularly and want the process to stay efficient as volume increases. It is not aimed at organizations that reconcile infrequently or are comfortable spending extra time on repetitive tasks.

McGovern Consulting Group provides MIP Accounting® Training and Implementation Services. We focus on everyday workflow decisions because efficiency in MIP usually comes from knowing how the software was designed to be used.

If you want your reconciliations to take less time without cutting corners, you can schedule time with us to review your processes.
